Stuff I learned on the Internet… this week.

We’ll play some catch-up. Here are some of the best, most interesting and/or funniest stories I’ve read and videos I’ve watched since the laziness set in last Wednesday. Enjoy!

  1. Swiss bank UBS has admitted to helping American customers evade taxes. No one is surprised by this, but people sure are angry.
  2. ProPublica is tracking changes to government websites whitehouse.gov, recovery.gov and financialstability.gov. They have also offered the tracking program - and instructions on how to set it up - free for anyone to use. (Also, Medill buddy Brian Boyer wrote the program, so mad props to him.)
  3. Ever wonder what Obama election guru David Axelrod wrote during his days as a long-haired Chicago youth? Friend, your wait is over. Axelrod’s work as a reporter for the Hyde Park Herald is now online. Adam at The Zoo Plane has promised to pore over it in search of gems.
  4. This one I learned from the good old-fashioned print version of The New Yorker. It’s a long, in-depth, diversely peopled article about the Ponzi scheme that was the state of Florida - before it imploded on itself in recent years. It’s a long read, but well worth it.

OK, so there weren’t any videos. There will be videos next time.
