Stuff I learned on the Internet today

  1. Disgusting Iowans have been trafficking mentally retarded Texans since the 1970s. They more or less enslaved them at a turkey processing plant, where they lived in squalor and got paid almost nothing.
  2. Newsweek is the new New Yorker. Or it will be after rebranding itself.
  3. Sez Prez Obama: “You ain’t my bitch, nigga. Buy your own damn fries.”
  4. ProPublica launched ShovelWatch.org, a site dedicated to tracking the federal stimulus bill. Great traditional journalism + citizen journalism + a topic everyone’s watching = gold star for ProPublica (and also project partners The Takeaway and WNYC).
  5. Happy Darwin Day! Well, almost. The famed evolutionist was born 200 years ago Thursday. If you’ve ever wondered what his favorite book was or what sorts of hobbies he had, check out this faux but accurate Q & A. Also, NPR has a neat piece about how the Brits find Mr. Darwin far less controversial than us Americans do.
  6. Last, but not least, another narsty food story. Salmonella on the floor? Ewwwww.

Happy reading!
